I got an email from a friend today...this is what it says... Fond memories For those who born in the 70s and 80s. 1. You grew up watching He-man, MASK, Transformers, Silver Hawk and Mickey Mouse. Not to forget, Ninja turtles, My Little Pony and Smurfs too. (OMG!! I remember!! I love those cartoons!!) 2. You grew up brushing your teeth with a mug in Primary school during recess time. You will squat by a drain with all your classmates beside you, and brush your teeth with a coloured mug.The teachers said you must brush each side 10 times too. (Actually i remember that was only during Kindergarten) 3. You know what SBC stands for. (S'pore Broadcasting Corporation. Woohoo!! What prize do i get?!) 4. You pay 40 cents for Chocolate or Strawberry MILK every week in class. (I always get 2 milks for free cos my friends don't like drinking milk. Hehe. Lucky me) 5. You watch a very popular Malay dubbed Japanese drama on RTM1 about schoolgirls who possess powerful skills in volleyball called Meoro Attack. (Oooh2!! I also remember Aksi Mat Yoyo!! Wakakakaka!!) 6. You find your friends with pagers and handphone cool in Secondary school. (LoL! What a lame device that was...Pagers SUX!!) 7. SBS buses used to be non-airconditioned. The bus seats are made of wood and the cushion is red. The big red bell gives a loud BEEP! when pressed. There are colourful tickets for TIBS buses. The conductor will check for tickets by using a machine which punches a hole in the ticket. (I also remember that there used to be lots of love poems carved on the back of the seats!! So romantic...NOT!! Plus bubblegums stuck everywhere...Eeeeeeee!!) 8. Envelopes given to us to donate to Sharity Elephant every Children's Day. (OoO yaaaaa...i fgt about that.) 9. You've probably read Young Generation magazine.You know who's Vinny the little vampire and Acai the constable. (Erm...Nope!! Dos'nt ring any bells...Srry.) 10. You were there when they first introduced MRT here. You went for the first ride with your parents and you would kneel on the seat to see the scenery. (Hehe. I used to do that!! Short & young little me. Hehe) 11. Movie tickets used to cost only $3.50. &@%#$*@#$^*!@#&^$ (I remember watching Lion King, Home Alone & Jurrasic Park with my family. Of cos those were the only movies that i watched with my parents...till now.) 12. Gals are fascinated by Strawberry Short Cake and Barbie Dolls. (I used to buy Sha a barbie dolls for her B'day every year. It's still in her closit now.) 13. You learn to laugh like The Count in Sesame Street. (No i don't?!! Apeje!!) 14. You longed to buy tibits called Kaka (20 cents per pack), and Ding Dang (50 cents per box), that had a toy in it and it changes every week not forgetting the 15 cents animal crackers and the ring pop, where the lollipop is the diamond on the ring. (I remember buying this black plastic pack that has question marks designs for 50 cents & i got a $5/- note inside!! Sometimes even $2/- & $10/- along with some toys & crackers inside. I was ESTATIC!!) 15. You watched TV2 (also known as Channel 10) cartoons because Channel 5 never had enough cartoons for you. (Yup2!! That was before it changed to Premiere 12 then now it's Kids central, Vasantham Central & Art Central) 16. Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, The Three Investigators, Famous Five and Secret Seven are probably the thickest story books you ever thought you have read. Even Sweet Valley High and Malory Towers. ( I read marvel comics like Spider Man, Captain America, X-Men & Avengers) 17. KFC used to be a high class restaurant that serve food in plates and let you use metal forks and knives. (Yup2!! Alot like Arnolds!! But they have mango puddings back then...i liked those puddings!!) 18. The most vulgar thing you said was asshole and idiot and THE MOST EXTREME WAS 'super white'...you just couldn't bring yourself to say the hokkien relative. (Erm...no comments!! Hehe. We all noe thats not true!! Wakakakaka!!) 19. Catching was the IN thing and twist as the magic word. (Yeah!! I love catching!! I usually play Block catching @ west coast with Sha & her bro along with 2 of her friends...i forgot their names though...Sapa sak tu dua pompan...) 20. Your English workbooks was made of some damn poor quality paper that was smooth and yellow. (Yup...but who cares as long as we got books to read & write) 21. CDIS were your bestfriend (Huh?! WTH is CDIS?! I have no idea...srry) 22. The only computer lessons in school involved funny pixellised characters in 16 colours walking about trying to teach you maths. (Wakakakaka!! I remember this!! Hehe. LoL. Just imagine lah sec2 students learning math with Mickey Mouse. LOL. LAME!!) 23. Waterbottles were slinged around your neck and a must everywhere you go. (Iizit? I don't remember it beign a must?! Maybe during my kindergarten days...i'm not sure) 24. Boys loved to play soccer with small plastic balls in the basketball court. (Erm...i think it was a ping pong ball actually...it was stupid. I'm more into catching, Badminton & Tabletennis) 25. Teng-teng, five stones, chapteh, hentam bola and zero point were all the rage with the girls and boys too... (I like chapteh!! Back then ah. Hehe) 26. Science was fun with the balsam and the angsana being the most important plants of our lives, guppies and swordtail being the most important fish. (Yaaaaah!! I don't know why they always use the same plants & fishes) 27. Who can forget Ahmad, Bala, Sumei and John, eternalized in our minds from the textbooks. Even Mr Wally & Mr.Yakki. What abt Miss Lala??? And Zaki and Tini in Malay Textbooks. (LoL!! All the textbooks had the same characters) 28. We carry out experiments of our own to get yourself badges for being a Young Zoologist/Botanist etc. (Yeah!!! I was a young Botanist!! I still got the badge seh!! Hehe) 29. Every Children's day and National day you either get pins or pens with 'Happy Children's Day 1993' or dumb files with 'Happy National Day 1994'. (Tu ah!! Every single time seh!! Cheap skates!! Dat was so lame!!) 30. In Primary six you had to play buddy for the younger kids like big sister and brother. (Me & Sha were partners & best buddies from primary 1 till primary 5 seh) 31. We wear BM2000, BATA, or Pallas shoes. (Oooh2!! I wear bata all the way till sec skool until i changed to North Star. Hehe) 32. Your form teacher taught you Maths, Science and English. (Yup2!! Some even teached Malay) 33. The worksheets were made of brown rough paper of poor quality. (Yah...but u don't see me complaining) 34. You went to school in slippers and a raincoat when it rained, and you find a dry spot in the school to sit down, dry your feet, and wear your dry and warm socks and shoes. (I never wore slippers to school...too lazy...so my feet will end up wet & stinky cos of the wet socks...eh wait...my feet dun stink back then. Wakakakaka!!) 35. School dismissal time was normally around 1pm. (YEAH!!! Those were the good times!! There were AM session & PM session till around 1997 i think. Was in Sec 3 when they combined the 2 sessions into 1. Sigh...) 36. There would be spelling tests and mental sums to do almost everyday. (yup2!! Easy enough) 37. Your friends considered you lucky and rich if your parents gave you $3 or more for pocket money everyday. (Erm...mine's only $1.50/- a day. But the food back then was very3 cheap!! Nasi Bryani was only 50cents a plate & a cup of grape drink was only 20 cents. There's still lots more cash to spend on my fav snacks like Hero!! Hehe.) 38. You see Wee Kim Wee's face in the school hall. (Srry i dun remember who this geezer is. Should i?! Maybe if i see the face then i'll remember.) 39. You freak out when the teacher tells you to line up according to height and hold hands with the corresponding boy or girl. (Hehe. No probs with me & Sha. LoL. We were the same height back then. LoL.) 40. Boys like to catch fighting spiders. (Oooooh YEAH!!! My favourite past time back then!! I remember going into Clementi Woods to catch them then selling them for $2/- each!! WooHoo!! I was really good @ it too...me & my best friend Zuraidy A.K.A Eddy) 41. Collecting and battling erasers was a pastime for boys. (LoLs!!! Then the winner takes all!! Wakakakaka!! Same goes for marbles) 42. Autograph books were loaded with 'Best Wishes', 'Forget Me Not', and small poems like 'Bird fly high, hard to catch. Friend like you, hard to forget'. (Erm...i dunno seh...i never buy postcards before...till now. Hehe) 43. Class monitors and prefects loved to say 'You talk somemore, I write your name ah!' (Erm...the prefects were friends of mine so i always get to go anywhere i wished) 44. There were at least 40 people in one class. (I think so...i don't remember actually) 45. Large, colourful schoolbags were carried. (I can't remember what kinda lame bag i was wearing but i bet it was ridiculous) 46. You brought every single book to school, even though there was one thing called the timetable. (Ooooh!! yah seh!! Why eh?! Guess we're dumb asses back then!!) Spread this heart warming message around, you don't get something like this very often.Never frown when you're down, you never know who's falling in love with your smile... (Huh?! What's smiling got to do with this email seh?! Apeje!!) For those who are born in those days... remember the good old days? For those who arent.... know what u missed out..? (I'll never forget the good old days...the times i spent with my friend & love ones...especially those who are no longer here today) Does/can the present be exchangable for the past? U decide. (I won't change a thing...sadly true...) I'm dedicating my blog song to my late girlfriend Sha...it was our aniversary song.
